Measure What Actually Matters

  • Overall outer dimensions vs. your model
  • Pocket depth vs. your designed depth
  • Hole location vs. your designed location

A Mismatch Isn't a Failed Session

If a dimension is off, that's real information — diagnose it using everything from Sessions 7–10, the same way Unit 1's Mismatch Activity treated a bad fit as data, not failure.

Step 1: Measure Your Part

Step 2: Inspect for Quality Issues

Check for tear-out, tab marks not fully cleaned up, or any surface roughness. Note anything you find.


Step 3: Diagnose Any Mismatch

For any dimension that differs from your design by more than a small amount, use Sessions 7–10's concepts to explain why — offset, step-down, material behavior, or something else.


Step 4: Unit Recap

List the five main skills from this 4-week arc: client communication, materials (subtractive and additive), CAD, CAM, and safety certification. For each, write one sentence on how it showed up in your practice build specifically.

  • Real measured dimensions, not estimates
  • A specific diagnosis for any mismatch — not "it just came out wrong"
  • All five Manufacturing Foundations skills named in your recap

Answer the following questions before submitting your work.

  1. Was your part's biggest dimensional difference bigger or smaller than you expected? What does that tell you about where you should double-check most carefully next time?
  2. Of the five Manufacturing Foundations skills, which one do you feel least confident applying to a real, higher-stakes project starting next week?
  3. This is the last reflection before the real client brief arrives. What's one thing about your own process you want to do differently once the stakes are real?
